WAYS TO REFRESH YOUR ROOM

Source
I am one of those people who gets bored of their surroundings really easily. Because I'm still in school, living at home with my parents, it means that I only have one room to myself and that is of course my bedroom. I'm often moving things around, rearranging where my bed, wardrobe and other bits of furniture and decorations go. There are however ways of refreshing the look of a room without spending three hours trying to move the bed around the wardrobe! I thought I'd share some simple but effective ways to change up the look of a room, without having to move all of the furniture and other bits and pieces.

There's something you can do before you get all of the furniture into place and it is honestly one of the best things you can do. It's as simple as giving the walls a new lease of life with some paint. Whether you want to just touch up a couple of places or go all out and change the colour completely, painting the walls is a great way to change up and refresh the look of a room. Earlier in the year, I painted the walls white, and it not only looks cleaner and more sleek, it also makes the room look bigger. If you don't want to go all out and repaint a room, there are some much smaller things you can do which can add something to a room that looks fairly plain and basic. These things can be personal to you, such as pictures of you and family, or more general pieces like quotes and prints.

If you have the time to move the furniture around and re-organise your room then I would suggest that you do. It can completely change the look of a room and it also gives you the opportunity to clean out those cupboards which haven't been touched since you moved in. However, it can be time consuming and you have to have the determination to finish putting everything back into place, but I think the end result is worth it. Clear the clutter off of the desk! Whatever surface it is, clear off that pile of clothes which are yet to be put away and put those pens into a pot. Try stashing things away in storage units such as desk drawers and cabinets so you can avoid the cluttered look! Or if you want to have them out (for instance, stationary or chargers) organise it all so you can have a pile of notebooks and a basket which can hold all of the stationary.

Another way to add something extra to your room, without spending much money at all, is by simply adding a couple of small decorations. I think fairy lights, or whatever you want to call them are so cute, and are an easy way to add more light to your room, whilst still looking cute. Grab a set from the Christmas box and put them up around the perimeter of your room, or wrap them around the headboard of your bed. If you don't have any, you can get them fairly cheaply from places like Homebase (here) or B&Q.

If you want to go all out and give your room a complete makeover but don't know where to start, I only have one thing to say to you. Pinterest. Pinterest is full of ideas and pictures of pretty rooms like the one I've used as the thumbnail for this post. If you don't like using Pinterest for whatever reason, then there are always interior design magazines which you can flick through in your local supermarket or newsagents, or other websites like Tumblr. The internet holds so many sources of inspiration, whether you're redesigning your bedroom or your kitchen. Just have a quick, half an hour search.

  1. I love changing the look of our rooms. I usually buy pictures from thrift stores this way I do not feel bad for getting rid of them when its time for something new. Painting the room is what I love most. When I was growing up I always rearranged my room. That was probably the best part. Thanks for sharing a great post. :)

  2. Rearranging furniture is one of my favorite ways to freshen up a room. If possible I like to take everything out of the room and then start from scratch placing items back into the space starting with the largest pieces and working down to the smaller pieces. It's amazing how much a little (or sometimes a lot)of editing can do to change a space. Thanks for sharing.
